"Who is Jesus?" is the most important question you can answer. Although no one knows what he looked like, no person in history has been depicted in more ways. But he is more than a person. The Bible teaches that he was God incarnate, or God in the flesh.
Have you thought much about Jesus? To understand Jesus we go to the only source of information about him, the Bible. In the New Testament we are given eyewitness accounts of him, the things he said, and the miracles he did. We take these accounts and the teachings of his first followers seriously. Obviously, he
was no ordinary person. He did not have an ordinary birth, nor an ordinary death. His life and death means something for all of us.
What does it mean? Jesus was like us (scripture) with one exception. He was not tainted by a "fallen" nature. He was not afflicted with the brokenness the rest of us face on a daily basis. Yes, all of us are broken and separated from God -- and the evidence is abundant. So, we need a redeemer, one who can repair our relationship with God, set us on a new course, and empower us to live for him.
The doctrines of historic Christianity, developed and explored through the centuries, explain this much better than any website can. Yes, we still have questions because our finite minds cannot grasp all the mysteries of God. He has reserved the answers to some questions for that day when he will take us to himself.
Until then, our purpose is to become increasingly like Jesus and to help others to be like him too. We want to reflect him, point to him, and praise him -- the "author and perfector of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2).
